The notebook that changed me

My artifact is this notebook. The color is bright orange like the setting sun. When I played tennis, I was using the notebook. I played tennis for six years when I was elementary school student. I used it for the latter three years of that. I wrote down what I learned from my coach and my reflection points in the notebook. Moreover, many of the names of friends I met later in high school are also written on this notebook.

I started playing tennis when I was 6 years old. Playing tennis was so difficult, but I gradually understood the fun of tennis. In addition, I could make a lot of friends. So I enjoyed playing tennis at that time. I entered a higher class and started participating in many tournaments when I was 10 years old. I couldn't enjoy tennis because I lost a lot of matches and I didn't feel like my tennis skills were improving. When I was troubled by them, I found the anime called "Baby Steps". The main character of the anime improved his tennis skills by writing down what he learned from his coach and his reflection points in his notebooks. So I wanted to mimic it and started using notebooks. It is important for tennis to predict the actions of the opponent, so I used my brain very much. I was able to organize my thoughts and focus more by writing down important points in my notebook. Thanks to the notebook and practice, I was able to win matches gradually. March 26th, 2016 was my last match. I wanted to win more than ever, but I was more nervous than ever. I remember vividly what my best friend said at that time.

"I'm more nervous than ever before."

"The fact that you are nervous is proof that you strongly want to win. It is good for the game! So look out for others more than yourself ! Hang in there !" said my best friend.

Those words were my engine. I was able to win three times in a row for the first time. I love those words so I have written them in my notebook. I belong to a badminton club now, but what I wrote in my notebook is definitely useful. My notebook not only improved my tennis skills, but also changed my way of thinking. Before I started using the notebook, I was always depressed when something bad happened. However, I knew the importance of thinking about what I should do to solve the problems. I would like to continue to cherish the notebook because it changed me.

Many people type on their computers when taking notes. There are many of them in this university as well. However, as for remembering things, it is better to use a notebooks than to use a computer. It is proven by joint research between the university of Princeton and the university of California. Even after all these years, I still remember writing in my notebook used for tennis. In addition, the demand for notebooks has been declining recently. In the future, more and more people are likely to place more emphasis on the individualization of stationery products to personalize them, and on the purpose of collecting stationery as a collection, rather than the functionality of stationery. So it is important for us to know the functional importance of notebooks.

Notebooks are good for remembering, but not good for environment. Currently, there is a problem of plastic in the ocean, but the environmental burden caused by paper is also large. It takes 10 liters of water and a lot of woods to make one sheet of A4 paper. It is related to the problem of deforestation. It is a big problem that the forest that absorbs carbon dioxide is decreasing. That's why we need to use recycled paper notebooks. It will help reduce deforestation. The consciousness of each person will change the future of the earth.

  4. Nice to meet you, Sota!
Your notebook is very important to you. And I could tell that you play tennis hard.
When I became a university student, I didn't use my notebook much anymore. I wonder which is better, a notebook or a computer.

  5. Good job, Sota! I find your story inspirational, and I enjoyed reading it very much! However, I wish you had shared a picture or two of what it looks like on the inside of your orange notebook! I also love the orange cover, but that image feels a little too generic for your story!

  7. Hello, Sota. I read a comic book a few years ago called "Baby Steps" that came out in your story and your story about how you were influenced by this and started taking notes was very sympsthetic. Also, as someone who has always taken the board in paper from, I thought your last comment gave me a lot to think about.
